Yes Autographs, Please.

Well, it's happened! I just signed my first Kindle autograph. I didn't think it was possible and I always have said that that would be the last hold-out for readers to not go digital: not getting the authors signature.
But http://kindlegraph.com/books made it possible to get a digital autograph from an author.
I visited the site to see how it was possible and there was a request waiting for me already. So, I went through the few steps and signed up.
Here's the dilemma: Sure, I customized the autograph, but it's a font. IT'S A FONT! It's not my hand holding a pen to paper. It doesn't even look like my signature.
I can literally have book signings without ever leaving my home. Good thing? Bad thing? Really not too sure here.
What do you think? I'm getting a headache.

  1. A tricky thing, digital signatures. I suppose that with ebooks rising in popularity, this will also rise. It really isn't the same as a physical book signing, but if it eventually leads to that, it's a good thing to be involved with. Thanks for the info, I'll be signing up for that once my book is finished. Cheers!

  2. When I set up my Kindlegraph account, I was disappointed when I saw the "FONTED" signature, but I looked at the option to opt out of the "FONTED" signature and created my own. I ended up using a mouse (it was too frustrating trying to do a signature from the touch pad.) Ok, it took about a dozen tries before I got a good signature, but is is now "saved" on Kindlegraph. I am looking forward to being a part of a virtual "book signing" tour, that would be fun.

  3. Hi! I'm the creator of Kindlegraph.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that the service has a long way to go in order to match the feel of an inscription on paper but please know that I am working on improving the process every day (including addressing many of the issues you raised).

I appreciate your support and patience.

  4. Hi,

Why not. You will have the opportunity of going to signings or not. This way you'll have a choice.
    Best of luck.

  5. I'm liking the feedback here. Great job Lauren.

I already saw a post on 'No More Secs' Facebook fan page earlier today. I went into that link and it asked me to sign in with twitter. I don't do twitter at the moment. Maybe later when I have time to look at it closer.

I have no problem passing along information to others though. I think I'm going to post this on the Independent Authors and Writers Facebook fan page.

  6. I think a font (or even a signature captured digitally) doesn't compare to an actual author's autograph. And it certainly doesn't even come close to meeting the author in person at a signing and actually watching them sign your book. That's a treat.

  7. Since I'm not on Twitter, I can't participate, but I'd love to find a way to do it thru the computer!

  8. I used my iPad to create a signature and it allowed me to 'write' it...still a little iffy...but closer to my serial killer signature so it's working!
